The EMPD Public Order Policing, First Responder Units and members of SAPS halted the process, according to EMPD spokesperson, Lieut-Col Wilfred Kgasago.
“The land invaders claimed that they had in the past week forked out a total of R200 each which they were made to believe was towards a water tank and land,” Kgasago added.
The money was paid to a man who claimed to be from a political party.
The crowd also told authorities that they were told the land off Pretoria Road was purchased legally and produced documentation to prove their claim.
According to Kgasago, the majority of those who were interviewed claimed they hailed from Witbank, Tembisa, Soweto and Delmas.
After law enforcers explained to the crowd that the land was not purchased legally, they dispersed peacefully.
“Investigations are underway and an effort is also being made to find out from the EMM relevant departments as to who is the legitimate owner of this piece of land,” Kgasago said.
No arrest has been, but an investigation was launched.
