Agosi’s plea for funding

“I am prepared to keep up my marks and work to the best of my ability, I just need your help,” were the words to the Benoni community, from student Andiswa Agosi.

The Wattville resident was accepted study for an MSc in Economics, at Sussex University (in the United Kingdom) from September 15, 2016, to September 20, 2017.

The City Times has confirmed this with the institution.

However, attending the university will not be possible if she cannot pay her fees, amounting to roughly R280 000, which excludes flights and accommodation.

Agosi recently graduated from Monash University (Roodepoort) with a Bachelor of Business Science degree, and has tried applying for a bursary from Sussex University and to take a loan from several banks, both of which were unsuccessful.

“Because my marks were high, I am not required to complete an honours course at Sussex,” said Agosi.

“Although I do want this opportunity to study abroad, to improve my global knowledge, I will return to South Africa.”

Agosi has dreams of returning to her motherland, particularly to help township residents in Benoni to improve their entrepreneurial skills and knowledge.

According the 22-year-old, she served as a volunteer during 2014, at the Junior Chamber International (JCI), which assists with community projects, and was then voted in as vice-president of the JCI from 2015 to 2016, when she graduated from Monash University.

“Apart from helping the community of Benoni, I would also like to work at the National Treasury of South Africa or the South African Reserve Bank,” she said.

“I am also the first child from both my mother’s and father’s sides, Maria and Sidwel Agosi, to be accepted into a university abroad for a Master’s degree.

Agosi is appealing to the community of Benoni to help her achieve her dreams.
