Daveyton ‘prophet’ makes congregants drink engine fluid

Prophet Theo Bongani Maseko, from the Breath of Christ Ministries in Daveyton, made his congregants drink vehicle engine cleaning fluid to attack viruses and detect demons.

It is believed the incident occurred sometime last week.

Maseko said the chemical doesn’t pose any health dangers and he admitted to also drinking the fluid several times.

He said he buys the chemical, ‘blesses’ it and gives it to his congregants.

“The liquid tastes like honey and the bottle has the fullness of Christ inside,” he said.

The prophet added that none of his congregants have ever been admitted to hospital following a ‘healing’ session.

“They were all healed; they came with the testimony,” said Maseko.

In an interview with the City Times, Maseko confirmed that he had made his congregants drink the fluid.

He said he uses this method “to demonstrate the power of God”.

“When we pray over anything, its poison dies.”

Maseko quoted a Bible verse to support his statement: “Mark 16 verse 17-18 which says ‘in My name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues. They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover’,” he said.

The Commission for the Promotion and Protection of the Rights of Religious, Cultural and Linguistic Communities (CRL) chairperson, Thoko Mkhwanazi-Xaluva, urges religious leaders to sit down and call each other to law.

“Very soon something bad will happen and we don’t want it to get to that point,” said Mkhwanazi-Xaluva.

Mkhwanazi-Xaluva said that only when congregants complain can criminal proceedings be brought against the pastors.
