Equestrian school takes in first learners

Cathy Boyes, former Kathstan College headmistress and co-owner, has started a new school.

Olympus Equestrian Academy, based at the Dunblane Equestrian Estate, recently had an intake of six learners across grades eight and nine.

The school will offer Grade 10 next year, building up to Grade 12 in later years.

Olympus Equestrian Academy follows the Department of Basic Education’s Curriculum and Assessment Policy Statement (Caps) curriculum, but will also offer equine studies from Grade 10 onwards.

Over and above that, learners will have the choice of completing an Equestrian Qualifications Authority of Southern Africa (EQASA) qualification in level one, two or three.

From March, children who aren’t enrolled in the school will be able to register for the EQASA course.

Boyes, a Rynfield resident, said her school will put children in good stead if they choose to pursue a career as a veterinarian.

Horse riding is offered as a sport in addition to an array of cultural activities.
