Hundreds of people attended a public participation meeting on the evening of November 22, many of whom lambasted the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality (EMM) for the proposed development of the club, which has a 110-year history.

EMM spokesperson Themba Gadebe said that 1 739 comments or representations have been received pursuant to the public participation process.
“A comprehensive report is being compiled on the subject matter, whereafter the report with all the comments or representations received from the local community or interested stakeholders will be considered by council,” said Gadebe.
Gadebe said the outcome will be communicated as soon as a decision on the club’s fate is made.
