Officers hospitalised after accepting sweets

A man was due to appear in court on April 3 after he allegedly drugged two police officers with sweets.

Capt Nomsa Sekele, Ekurhuleni Central Cluster spokesperson, said the incident took place at the cluster’s Benoni vehicle identification section on March 31.

She said the 44-year-old man gave a police constable two sweets.

The officer shared one with a colleague.

“After a few minutes both members became dizzy and they were taken to Life the Glynnwood Hospital for observation,” said Sekele.

“The doctor examined them and confirmed that the sweets they ate contained drugs (cannabis oil).”

The spokesperson said the K9 Unit was called to search the suspect’s vehicle, in which they found sweets and two syringes.

The man was arrested on charges of attempted murder and possession of drugs, and detained at the Benoni Police Station.
