Fritz loves everything about make-up

Crystal Park resident Louis Fritz, who is a make-up artist, is inspired by the beauty and strength of women.

BCT: Why did you become a make-up artist?

LF: I had my first taste of make-up – literally – when I was about two years old.

I ate some lipstick and it was love at first bite!

I’ve never looked back; I love everything about make-up – the taste, texture, colour and smell.

BCT: Have you been mocked for being a male make-up artist?

LF: I was raised in an Afrikaans community with a “boys don’t cry” mentality.

But most women, in my personal experience, prefer a male make-up artist.

It is as if they believe it makes you objective and that you see them through different eyes.

BCT: Tell us about yourself?

LF: I matriculated at Noordelig Gekombineerde Skool in 1998.

I then did a make-up and beauty course at Hydro International Academy and Jose’s House of Beauty.

In 2002 I did a course in fine arts at the Ekurhuleni East College, in Benoni (NQF Four).

My mom, Joey, and sister, Yolandi, have always been my muses.

BCT: What are your hobbies?

LF: I love spending time with my dad, Willie Fritz, in the garden.

I love buying plants, trees and flowers and watching them grow.

We use to have our own vegetable and herb garden and it’s rewarding to eat what you’ve planted – literally reaping what you sowed.

I also enjoy baking, although I’m no Jamie Oliver.

I also enjoy going to the gym, painting and spending time with my family and our dogs.

BCT: What are your greatest achievements?

LF: Travelling to countries like Seychelles, Dubai, Germany and China, and cities like Miami, and meeting some of the most incredible human beings.

Some of my work has been featured on the covers of magazines and television shows and I have worked on international royal families, Mandela and other well-known international super models, actors, presenters and dancers.

BCT: You are 37 years old and have achieved so much, what are your future plans?

LF: To travel more.

I love learning, experiencing and discovering new things and places and meeting interesting people.

I would like to venture into television and radio and maybe have my own show where I show and teach women to transform and empower themselves through the art of transformation.
