UPDATE: Local gynaecologist acquitted of attempted murder charge

A gynaecologist from Life the Glynnwood Hospital, who faced charges of attempted murder and contravention of a protection order, was found not guilty by magistrate Ian Cox in the Benoni Regional Court, on June 6.

The 50-year-old doctor was accused of critically injuring his wife with a piece of exercise equipment on January 24, 2014.

He pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Police claimed at the time that the man used a 2kg dumbbell to hit his wife on the head, while she was taking a shower in their home.

The doctor then went to the police station to report the matter and to hand himself over.
