Lt-Col Mack Mngomezulu, spokesperson for the police’s Ekurhuleni Central Cluster, said the 38-year-old man drove along Main Reef Road at about 11.30pm.
The spokesperson said the man stopped to talk to a woman near the Benoni Cemetery.
Mngomezulu said three men soon jumped into the car.
Two of them held him up and robbed him.
“They took him into the bush and tied his hands with wire,” said Mngomezulu.
“They took his two cellphones, wallet, cards, leather jacket, shoes and belt.
“They demanded his PIN number for the bank card, but he told them it was his work’s card and that he did not have the PIN.”
The perpetrators drove off in the victim’s vehicle without him.
“Police members who were patrolling the area saw a bakkie without number plates and a licence disk parked on the side of the road,” the spokesperson said.
“They became suspicious. They stopped and found a female behind the steering wheel.
“She could not produce a driver’s licence or ID book.”
She was taken to the Benoni Police Station.
While the driver was at the police station reporting the hijacking and robbery, he identified the woman the police had brought to the station.
She was arrested for possession of a hijacked vehicle.
The three men involved in the crime are on the run.
Mngomezulu said police are investigating whether the woman is involved in similar crimes in the area.
