Siyasiza needs your backing when they run the Rowlin Glow Run

Non-profit organisation Siyasiza chairperson and vice- chairperson, Nadia Smith and Stephen Sewell, will run the 15km at the Rowlin Glow Run on November 1 to raise funds for education-focused projects.

Participating in this race is another way to fund their projects which help community members in need of food, education and sanitary items.

“Rowlin Glow Run is an annual night race which sees the community pull together and create such a vibe en route,” Sewell said.

“I was introduced to the race by my chiropractor three years ago and I ran the 15km that year.

“Since then, I have been hooked – it is a race not to be missed.”

Sewell encouraged Smith to join the race this year and to complete a distance she has not run.

“Stephen sent an invite to me on Facebook which I declined at first,” Smith said.

“Then he spoke to me in person and challenged me in a ‘If you will, I will’ kind of scenario.

“He has always been my motivator and challenger; he knows which distances I have done to date and suggested the 15km as a next step.”

Together, the two are asking the public to support this initiative by sponsoring R150 (R10/km).

“This is a very easy opportunity to support Siyasiza which will allow us to make a bigger impact in our project areas,” said Smith.

“We want to see children’s lives change for the better by supporting them in education. We aim to work alongside the school and look after some of their personal needs.

“We do not want to affect lives – we want to change lives.”

Vice-chairperson Sewell said all proceeds raised will be allocated to projects of social justice within the Benoni and Chief Albert Luthuli areas.

Smith added the following projects will also be tended to with the funds raised.

• Siyaphumelela: Literacy support and development in schools.

• Isithunzi: Toiletry packs for scholars in need.

• Feeducate: Sandwiches for scholars in need of a meal.
