Young Kelsey de Witte needs you to help her collect more than 12 000 litres of water to be donated to the residents of Cape Town.
Kelsey has started a drive called Sending H20-Hope to others in Cape Town.
The water will be collected until February 11.
The 12-year-old said she is challenging the youth to take a stand and make a difference.
“Saving water is important and as young people we need to start learning about the importance of saving water,” said Kelsey.
“By educating the youth, we will be able to sustain water for the future because if there is no water, there will be no school which means no education.”
When asked how she came up with the idea, she said: “My father, Ben, went to Cape Town on a business trip and I was worried if he was going to get enough to drink, bath etc.”
The Farrarmere Primary School learner said we might not be able to save the drought, but we can help the residents and animals.
“Hence, I am challenging all the schools in Benoni, young people and residents to help me make this a success,” she said.
“After all, water is life and we all depend on it.”
She added that she saves water at home by watering plants with bath water, taking a shorter shower and by sweeping the pavement instead of wetting it.
Water can be dropped off at the Benoni Animal Rescue Centre (Barc), at 42 4th Street, Northmead or at 1A Spartan Road, Isando.
