Equipping new moms for motherhood

Preparing for parenthood.

On February 10, Life the Glynnwood Hospital hosted an informative talk for mothers-to-be.

Bonnie Whiffler, marketing and communications officer at the hospital, said the purpose of the event was to equip the new moms with various ‘tools’ before giving birth.

Future parents were given insight into the medical side of what to expect and they were given guidelines on how to deal with these occurrences in a safe manner that will not harm the mother or baby.

About 100 people attended the event with moms-to-be receiving goodie bags that contained information and products that would be helpful in the first few days.

Spot prizes comprising products for moms were handed out throughout the morning.

“Experts from the relevant fields shared valuable tips and tools regarding breastfeeding, brain development, skin management, healthy eating during pregnancy, bone development, stem cell storage, and most importantly, what to expect when giving birth,” said Whiffler.

Exhibitors ranged from audiology, feeding products, photography and therapy centres.

“Being a parent carries an enormous responsibility. There’s no doubt that those who attended the day have left feeling more equipped to handle unexpected concerns,” she said.

This hospital is due to host the same event next year.
