Farrarmere Fire Station stands as a white elephant
The upgrade for the Farrarmere Fire Station has been watered down.
The Farrarmere Fire Station is considered a white elephant to Ward 28 Clr Malanie Haggard, who said the upgrade of the fire station has come to a standstill.
The City Times reported about the upgrade to the Farrarmere Fire Station, valued at R28-million in November 2016.

In the article, the City Times stated that the construction is divided into two phases, with the first expected to be completed by November 30, 2017.
To date, the first phase has not been completed.
“Phase two was supposed to start in April 2018,” said Haggard.
“However, the construction has come to a standstill for many reasons.”
These reasons include labour issues and finances.
“Some employees were suspended without pay and then dismissed in December,” Haggard explained.
According to Haggard, the employees took their employers to the CCMA and won the case.
“The conclusion was that the employees must be paid their salaries for November and December,” Haggard said.
Haggard also said the finances for the fire station cannot be accounted for by the EMM.
“The municipality has not got money to complete the upgrade,” she said.
As a result, when the new budget is presented in May, only then will Haggard and the community know if the renovations will be completed.
The City Times made contact with the EMM on February 21 regarding the fire station, but no response was received at the time of going to print.
