Etwatwa SAPS spokesperson Capt Ramothakhi Maqabe said it is alleged that the two sisters were on their way home from a tavern.

“The duo decided to take a shortcut through a veld,” said Maqabe.

“As they were passing through the veld, they were approached by an unknown man who threatened them using a firearm.”

“The man blindfolded and assaulted them, and then he raped them,” said Maqabe.

No arrest has been made as yet.

Maqabe said police urge women to be cautious when walking at night and they should avoid walking alone.

Police are appealing to anyone who might have witnessed the incident and knows the whereabouts of the suspect to contact the station on 011 746 8900 or Crime Stop at 08600 10111, or their nearest police station at all hours.
