“During damping down, the remains of the toddler were discovered on what was a bed and was burnt beyond recognition,” said Ntladi.

“Six vehicles, a trailer and multiple workshop tools were also ruined by the blaze.”
Ntladi said it is alleged that the toddler was asleep when the shack caught fire.

ER24 spokesperson Annine Siddall said paramedics arrived on the scene and found that the toddler had sustained fatal burn wounds.

“Unfortunately, the boy was declared dead by the paramedics on scene,” said Siddall.

The mother and elder sister were not inside the shack.

Ntladi said the cause of the fire is undetermined though the preliminary report states that illegal electrical connection might be the cause.
