Enjoy a fun walk with your family in Wattville on Women’s Day

Help church raise funds by participating in a fun walk

The Methodist Watville Community Outreach programme will be hosting a family fun walk on August 9.

The walk will start at 8 am at the Wattville Stadium.

Tickets will be R80 for adults, R50 for pensioners, R40 for students and R20 for children under 10.

The target is to sell about 10 000 tickets in order for the organisation to purchase new premises which cost about R1.5-million.

“The only thing we need is for the public to buy tickets and participate in the walk,” said programme director, Judith Sunday.

The programme is a non-profit organisation (NPO) that was started in Wattville in 2003.

The NPO provides primary health care services to the Ekurhuleni East and North regions, and these services include HIV testing to anyone needing them.

According to Sunday, if patients are tested positive they are then referred to the closest facility where they will get further assistance. The programme hosts health talks on gender-based violence, male circumcision and home-based care for the elderly and other patients who might be bedridden.

A wellness programme is also run on the premises, where the elderly do exercises to keep them busy during the day from Monday to Friday.

Each person receives a meal before going back home after the exercises.

“We give out medication to those patients who are on a specific treatment,” said Sunday.

“This means that the patients don’t have to stand in long queues at clinics.”

According to Sunday, they have just introduced the orphan and vulnerable testing, the process that involves checking the family background of the child and providing them with the necessary treatment.
