A case of sexual assault was opened at the Crystal Park SAPS after a 33-year-old man tried to rape his 12-year-old niece.
The incident occurred in Cloverdene on August 12 at around 6pm.
Ekurhuleni Central Cluster spokesperson Captain Nomsa Sekele said the man called the child into his bedroom and touched her inappropriately.
“As he was undressing, the child managed to escape and screamed for help.
“She was heard by the neighbours who came to the house to open the locked security door for her.”
Sekele said the suspect was beaten by neighbours before they contacted the police.

He was then arrested and detained at the Crystal Park SAPS.
Sekele said the man was supposed to appear in court today (August 13) but he said he wasn’t feeling well due to the beating.
He was then transported to Tembisa Hospital under police guard.
