Man sentenced to eight years’ imprisonment for theft at Benoni Court

The man is serving his sentence at Modderbee Prison.

Gavin Edward Francis, who was arrested for theft of motor vehicle, was sentenced at the Benoni Magistrate’s Court on September 6.

Francis was sentenced to eight years’ imprisonment of which two years will be suspended for three years, on condition he doesn’t commit a crime during the period of suspension.

He was also declared unfit to possess a firearm.

Ekurhuleni Central Cluster spokesperson Captain Pearl van Staad said in June Francis opened a case of motor vehicle theft and claimed the vehicle he hired was stolen.

“Upon further investigation, it was found Francis was lying about the vehicle being stolen, it was declared he sold it,” said van Staad.

Francis was then arrested and charged at the Benoni SAPS.

He is serving his sentence at Modderbee Prison.
