Take note of road closures because of airshow
Free parking will be available at various places in the vicinity.
Thousands of aviation and defence enthusiasts are expected to make their way to the Africa Aerospace and Defence Air Show (AAD) which will take place until September 23, with the event being opened to the public from September 22.
The Air Force Base (AFB) is based in Waterkloof and for this reason, organisers have devised a comprehensive plan to manage access and ease the traffic flows.
Bus shuttles will be in operation from the park-and-ride facilities near to the venue on the open days (September 22 and 23).
Shuttle buses will make regular journeys between the parking areas and the air force base.
CEO of Commercial Aviation Association Southern Africa and lead partner for AAD 2018 Leon Dillman, urges the public to plan their journeys and make use of the public transport arrangements in order to be part of Africa’s largest international air show.
“We encourage the public to visit the show in large numbers,” said Dillman.
“This is one of the best family outings in Gauteng this year and we hope to attract more than 100 000 people over the five days of AAD 2018.
“We are aware of the impact of such a mass event on communities, especially residents close to AFB Waterkloof and road users, and we are doing our utmost to keep disruptions to a minimum.”

Only park-and-ride buses will be allowed on Trichardt Road and Veldpou Street with road closures at Dastek, Solomon Mahlangu and Van Ryneveld Avenue.
Traffic and emergency officials will be on duty to manage traffic flow and all closures and detours will be clearly marked.
Visitors are advised to access the show from the Botha Avenue and Rigel Avenue off-ramps on the N1 or Nellmapius Drive on the R21.
Park-and-ride facilities will be located at the Armscor offices in Nossob Drive, Erasmusrand, at 68 Air School in Snake Valley Road, the Air Force Base Swartkop on the Old Johannesburg Road, Fountains Valley, Groen Kloof Road and Centurion Rugby Club on West Street.
The highway will be cleared at around 3.30pm and all closures will end by 5.30pm to facilitate the resumption of normal traffic on both days.
