Kgabiso Mlangeni (21) was sentenced to six years’ imprisonment on September 29 after he was found guilty of rape and assault in the Benoni Regional Court.
The incident occurred in Etwatwa on July 22, 2017.
Ekurhuleni Central Cluster spokesperson Captain Nomsa Sekele said the victim was with her boyfriend at a local shebeen when a fight broke out between Mlangeni and his friend.

“Mlangeni stabbed the victim’s boyfriend and then dragged her into a room at the shebeen,” said Sekele.
“He then threatened the victim with a knife and raped her.”
Mlangeni was arrested shortly after the incident and the case was investigated by Sergeant Lefa Faro of the Ekurhuleni Central Cluster Family Violence Sexual Offences.
Major General Poobalan Subbiah, Ekurhuleni Central Cluster commander, applauded the investigating officer for a job well done.
