[LISTEN] Pit bulls taken from police officer by Benoni SPCA
SARS A18 Tax Certificates are available for larger donations to the Benoni SPCA to assist them with veterinary bills and the upkeep of animals.
The Benoni SPCA obtained a court order to remove three dogs from the property of a SAPS warrant officer in Daveyton on November 5.
SPCA inspectors had discovered the animals, chained to poles with no water and with neglected injuries and a female pit bull on the property had no shelter and was suffering from a skin condition.
“After failing to comply with a written warning, the SPCA went in and removed two of the dogs,” said Benoni SPCA manager Vicky Finnemore.

“The third dog had been removed from the property and hidden by the officer who denied ever having ownership of her.”
The SPCA claimed they took matters further and reported the incident to the officer’s senior who responded efficiently in helping locate the third dog.
“The female pit bull was collected from Daveyton this evening (November 7) and has been taken to a veterinarian.
“The Benoni SPCA will be laying charges against the warrant officer.”
Finnemore reiterated that animal cruelty is a crime in South Africa.
“No one should be above the law and we certainly aren’t going to allow for it.
“Law enforcement officials should be setting an example of high ethical standards on how to behave in our society.
“When officers fail to do what is right, they erode the public trust and further degrade law enforcement’s ability to work within the community and carry out its mission.
“We would like to thank the station commander, captain and colonel of the station involved, for their assistance.”
