Rocky finds a new family

Claudine was happy to hear that Rocky has been adopted into a loving home, she said: “It is always a privilege to help a dog and change their lives, I wish his family lots of happiness.”

What could have been a deadly ending for little Rocky turned out to be a happy one after he was adopted by professional squash player Pano Hadji from Northmead.

Rocky was surrendered by his previous owner after three of the four dogs he had were poisoned by people in the informal settlement he lived in.

Claudine Matthews, founder of Pawsrehoming, said: “Rocky’s previous owner asked me to come and pick him up because he was afraid Rocky would also be poisoned.

“I picked him up and brought him to the SPCA in Benoni.”

He was put up for adoption and Pano saw him in the City Times.

“I knew I wanted to bring him home,” he said.

“Rocky has adjusted well to the new environment, he gained weight and is getting along well with Lisa, our other dog.

“I caught him stealing a bag of cookies in the house and when he could not open it, he gave me a look, like he’s asking me to open it.”
