[LISTEN] Northmead resident appeals for help with relief needed in Mozambique

“My garage at home is being used as a storage point for the items before a 22-foot truck leaves for Mozambique on Wednesday."

Northmead resident Dawn Viljoen is appealing to the public to provide assistance to disaster-hit Beira, Mozambique.

This comes after Cyclone Idai recently made landfall in Mozambique, Zimbabwe and Malawi with the most devastating effects being felt in Beira, Mozambique.

Recent reports have revealed that over 1 000 people are feared dead, with homes, other property and infrastructure such as roads being washed away.

Food

Cooking oil

Mealie meal

Salt

Sugar

Beans

Rice

Powder milk

Dry foods

Bottled water

Peanut butter

General household

Blankets/ rolls of blanket material

Clothing adult and kids

Soap

Jik (chlorine bleach – no additives)

Buckets

Cups

Nappies

Towels

Pots for cooking

Gas for cooking

Housing

Plastic (E.g. DPC sheets)

Tents

Tarpaulins

Medical

Bandages

Betadine

Gauze

Paracetamol adult and children

Anti inflammatories (Ibuprofen etc.)

Antibiotics for adults and children (Amoxicillin, Azithromycin)

IV fluids if able to use as Malaria treatments (Coartem) for adults and children.

Diarrhoea medication: Immodium and Rehydrate.

Space blankets

Body bags

“Medication and food are among our top priorities to get to those affected in time.

“My garage at home is being used as a storage point for the items before a 22-foot truck leaves for Mozambique on Wednesday.

“I would like to have the truck filled up before we send it up to them.”
