[LISTEN] Truck leaves Northmead for Mozambique thanks to ‘ripple effect of kindness’

Among the items received were food, clothing, blankets and 35 drums to be used as toilets.

Since her first appeal for relief for disaster-struck Beira, in Mozambique, Northmead resident Dawn Viljoen was able to, with the public’s help, send a truck filled with food and other basic and essential supplies to the country on March 27.

Dawn, who has helped with relief for the country during similar circumstances in 2000 and 2013, is using her garage as a storage facility for donations.

“I received donations from all over Gauteng, the Benoni and Boksburg Girl Guides and even had calls internationally where people want to help,” she explained.

“It’s become a ripple effect of goodness and kindness.”

Dawn will be visiting Mozambique in June.

She said while the flooding would have subsided by then, assistance will still be needed in many areas.
