Official dismissed after viral racist video
The Ekurhuleni metro has dismissed Bedfordview-based Licensing Department official with immediate effect following egregious racist remarks and aggression against a client which went viral on social networks on May 20.
The metro acted swiftly to institute disciplinary processes against the official, who failed to make substantive written submission on why his contract should not be terminated.
Ekurhuleni spokesperson Themba Gadebe said the metro views this conduct as constituting exceptional circumstances as envisaged in Schedule 8 (4), sub-section 4 of the Labour Relations Act, whereby pre-dismissal procedures may be dispensed with.

Kagiso Lerutla was appointed as the metro’s new group chief financial officer (GCFO) on May 30.
Lerutla (33) is a qualified chartered accountant and a member of the South African Institute of Charted Accountants, with a BCom degree from the University of Limpopo, and a BCom Accounting Honours degree from the University of Johannesburg.
He first joined the metro in 2014 as a divisional head for governance and compliance within the metro’s finance department.
He brings a wealth of experience in public sector finance and fiscal governance, having worked at the auditor-general before being employed by the metro.
The GCFO plays an integral role in implementing the financial reforms at the direction of the accounting officer with the assistance of appropriately skilled finance staff.
Executive mayor councillor Mzwandile Masina said: “As the country prepares to commemorate the 1976 Soweto Uprising on June 16, the appointment of Lerutla as GCFO is a reflection of the Ekurhuleni metro’s commitment to youth development and entrusting young people with great responsibilities.
“We trust that Lerutla will serve the City diligently.”
