“Mahlangu and Mathunjwa shot and killed the two guards while were escorting a vehicle of British American Tobacco that was delivering cigarettes,” said Ubisi.
They then robbed them of their firearms.
In February 2016, Mahlangu and Mathunjwa were arrested with a loaded pistol that had a serial number which was filed off.
Ubisi said after further investigation, the police recovered a 9mm pistol with serial number removed and a rifle with magazine of which the serial number was also removed.
“The investigation revealed that one of the firearms was taken from another security guard who was murdered in October 2015 in Etwatwa.
“The rifle and the other 9mm pistol were taken from Fidelity security guards when they were shot and killed,” he said.
Putfontein SAPS station commander Lt Col Wellington Mathiane applauded Det Sgt Simon Mosako for a job well done in ensuring that the suspects are put behind bars.
