Candidate councillor calls for EMPD to deploy traffic wardens after learner (7) hit by car and killed in Actonville

According to Democratic Alliance (DA) Ward 29 candidate Zaakirah Ismail, the EMPD should allocate traffic wardens to Actonville following a seven-year-old boy being hit by a car and killed at the Caledon Street and Birmingham Road intersection on July 16.

“The DA is calling on the EMPD to allocate traffic wardens to areas in Actonville where there are schools,” said Ismail.

“The traffic wardens play a pivotal role in ensuring learners’ safety when they cross the road to school.

“There should be designated drop-off zones and parking arranged for learner transport vehicles to ensure learners’ safety.

“We call on the Gauteng Department of Education, MMC for Community Safety, MMC for Transport, schools and parents to work together in ensuring learners’ safety.

“We send our heartfelt condolences to the parents, Actonville Primary School teachers, learners and members of the school governing body.”
