Keeping up with Council

The Ekurhuleni metro will be hosting and presenting the annual national Thami Mnyele Fine Arts Awards (TMFAA)

Ekurhuleni metro builds new fire station

The Ekurhuleni metro is building a new Olifantsfontein Fire Station at 12 Axle Road to relief the old fire station that was built in the mid 1940s in the same area, and the project is currently 54% complete.

The areas that are served by the old fire station have grown substantially over the years which has affected the response time.

The Olifantsfontein Fire Station will have five bays to house five fire trucks and three ambulances, and a shift comprising of 11 officials.

The more capacitated fire station will reduce the response time to be in line with the international benchmark.

The metro has employed 36 local labourers, as well as 12 subcontractors with their own labourers.

The metro has committed to build two fire stations every three years to reduce the response time to emergency situations.

Executive mayor Mzwandile Masina launched a new fleet of firefighting vehicles in October 2018, comprising of ambulances, water pumpers, water tankers, rescue pumper and hydraulic platform which reaches a height of 37 meters.

MMC for Community Safety Clr Frans Mmoko said: “We are ramping up our emergency services capacity to live up to our vision of being a developmental city that provides people-centred services, and creates a safer environment for our residents.”
