Sector 4 CPF in Benoni spreads its safety net

“Our main aim is to establish contact with the CBD and let the people know we are here to help.”

The Benoni CBD has recently been included in the Sector 4 CPF, this according to Benoni CPF members Mary Goby and Jacques Laubscher.

Joining Western Extension under the sector, the Benoni CPF has extended a hand of welcome to the CBD by asking residents and business owners to be more active in reporting criminal activities.

“It is with great pleasure that we announce this change in the sector,” said Goby.

“We as the committee need the businesses and residents to help us fight the surge of crime by being more active in the area.

“We need people to be our eyes and ears.

“We understand the plight they are facing and we want to help.

“Therefore we are encouraging people to become active on the Benoni Community Radio Network (BCRN).

“The BCRN allows for effective communication and enables everyone on the channel to act swiftly in regards to incidents such as shoplifting, the burning of copper cables and similar issues.

“Once the incident is reported on the BCRN, members on the network will respond.

“The network consists of CPF members, security companies, SAPS, emergency response units and even non-CPF members.

“Every member in society has a talent or skill which they can contribute towards helping with what we are trying to achieve.

“We are also in need of more patrollers, even if they just help for an hour or two.

“Our main aim is to establish contact with the CBD and let the people know we are here to help.

Goby requested that the following be reported:

• Illegal businesses

• Overcrowded houses

• Suspected/alleged drug houses

• Any illegal activities

• Burning of any refuse, etc.

• Illegal buildings.

“We will need the specific address and as much proof as possible in order to assist.

“All information will stay anonymous.

“The CBD is in a state and we need to stand up as a community and do something about it.”
