Boy (12) drowns in Western Extension swimming pool

A 12-year-old boy drowned in the Benoni Central Swimming Pool in Kemston Avenue at around 3.12pm yesterday (September 20).

“Reports from the scene indicate that lifeguards found the young male believed to be approximately 12-years-old submerged in the swimming pool,” confirmed Netcare 911 media liaison officer Shawn Herbst.

“Lifeguards pulled the child out and immediately started CPR when they found the boy completely unresponsive and not breathing.

“Netcare 911 Advanced Life Support paramedics had taken over resuscitation efforts however the child’s condition rapidly deteriorated,” he concluded.
