It’s Lions Christmas cake time! Get yours at the City Times office
Last year this initiative raised over R7 000 for the clubs, with the public happy to conveniently pick up a Lions’ cake while collecting their newspaper or coming in to Times for other business.
The City Times has again invited all Benoni’s Lions clubs to bring a box of their special Christmas cakes into their office to sell to the public.

This year the cakes cost R115 each and are absolutely worth every morsel, as Benoni Lakes Lions Club member Beaulieu Maré explained: “Lions Christmas cakes are different from others on the market as they contain a special extra ingredient – the “kindness” ingredient.
“All proceeds from the sale of Christmas cakes go towards Lions Service projects in the community, so you can happily eat away knowing that your purchase has helped someone less fortunate.”
“While the cost of the cakes has gone up slightly this year, they are still an absolute bargain when you consider that it’s a 1kg cake.”
Beaulieu added that the Lions Christmas cakes don’t contain any alcohol, so are perfect for teetotallers too.
The cakes are square-shaped (about 150 x 150 x 55mm) and are un-iced.
“There are less than 15 weeks until Christmas, and it’s time to start thinking about year-end gifts.
“Our ever popular Lions Christmas cakes have arrived and we are expecting a flood of orders, so we encourage corporates and individuals to consider these as year-end gifts.
“The box they come in is so easy to wrap and decorate and it’s always meaningful to receive something that you know has benefited others less fortunate.
“Why not buy a case of twelve and keep a couple under your Christmas tree for those unexpected guests? After all, there is nothing better than the gift of giving back to your community.
“Our thanks to the City Times for again assisting with the sale of cakes at their office; we are so appreciative.”
Beaulieu added all proceeds from the sale of Benoni Lakes Lions Club cakes goes towards their special project to build an eye clinic in Benoni in the near future.
“We still have a long way to go, as the project will cost millions, but every cent gets us closer to this dream,”Beaulieu said
