Honour bestowed on promoted captains
At the promotion ceremony, Capt Pinky Tsinyane said the emphasis was all about the meaning of the stars on their insignia.
Four non-commissioned officers were recently promoted to the rank of commissioned officers by the Provincial Commander, Brig Samuel Stanley Kilian.
“Phillip Motloung, Steven Espach, Innocent Malema and Daleen De Kock-Oelofse, were recently promoted from non-commissioned officers to commissioned officers in the Gauteng Rapid Response Services,” said Capt Pinky Tsinyane, principal communication officer of the Rapid Response Services (RRS).

“The event was held in the office of the Gauteng Provincial RRS in Benoni.
“It is a culture with the RRS commander that he puts ranks on promoted members.
“The reason is the determination he has for the members to ensure that they understand the transition, and the accepting of more responsibilities as they climb the ladder.
“He believes that the moment the members get promotion, induction/mini workshop should be conducted regarding the code of conduct, code of ethics and all duties entrusted in them before putting their ranks.
“He explained that there is resemblance between the police officer and the aloe – they are both survivors able to operate effectively with few resources.
“He added that if the officers are familiarising themselves with the pointed stars they will never go wrong since it serves as a symbol of guidance which guides the SAPS to strive towards the five broad objectives, as set out in the preamble to the South African Police Service Act 1995, (Act No 68 of 1995), namely to:
• Ensure the safety and security of all persons and property in the national territory.
• Uphold and safeguard the fundamental rights of every person as guaranteed by the Constitution.
• Ensure cooperation between the service and the communities it serves in the combating of crime.
• Reflect respect for victims of crime and understanding their needs.
• Offer public accountability.
“He concluded by saying that everyone remembers the celebrated culture. He/she will always embrace and practice what was said on daily basis to achieve the goal of the organisation.”
