A successful weekend was granted for the Benoni Flying Squad (BFS) from November 22 to 24 when they made several arrests and recovered several items.
“The BFS officers arrested seven suspects, recovered five motor vehicles, two trailers and one firearm,” said BFS spokesperson WO Grant Giblin.

“Seven suspects were arrested with the recovery of three motor vehicles, one being a white Mercedes truck and two trailers on R23, Benoni, hijacked on a Vaal Marina case.”
Giblin said officers responded to a complaint of armed robbery and shooting in progress at Bedford Centre, Bedfordview.
“Upon arrival, they found a jewellery store had been robbed. It was alleged that there was a shooting incident where a suspect was fatally wounded.
“On the scene, an AK47 rifle was recovered with two magazines and 40 live rounds of ammunition.”
In further policing, two abandoned motor vehicles were recovered in Etwatwa, a white Volkswagen Polo in Ramachoene Street, hijacked on a Vosman case, and a white Toyota Quantum in Maphupheni used without the owner’s consent.
The suspects, aged between 24 and 49, will be appearing in local magistrate’s courts to face charges of possession of stolen motor vehicle and possession of hijacked motor vehicle.
