Theft

Frans Jooste was found guilty of theft on December 10. The 30-year-old was sentenced to a fine of R3 000 or three years’ imprisonment with an additional sentence of nine months’ imprisonment, which is suspended for five years on condition the accused is not convicted of theft of any attempt thereof during this period. Jooste was also declared unfit to possess a firearm.

False statement

Joel Modishi Matlala was found guilty of making a false statement in an affidavit. The accused was sentenced to a fine of R2 500 or four months’ imprisonment with an additional sentence of six months’ imprisonment, which is suspended for five years on condition the accused is not convicted of the charge during this period.

Robbery with aggravating circumstances

Vuyisile Dakuse (39) was charged with housebreaking with intent to rob and robbery with aggravating circumstances. Dakuse was sentenced to one count of six years’ imprisonment and a second count of 20 years’ imprisonment. Two years of the sentence imposed in terms of count one is to run concurrently with the sentence in count two. The accused was declared unfit to possess a firearm.

Animal cruelty case continues

Jacqueline and Diana Browning, who are accused of cruelty to animals, will make their next court appearance in February 2020. The Brownings were charged after the Benoni SPCA confiscated 45 dogs from their property earlier this year. The dogs were found with serious health problems and kept in small cages.

Nanny murder trial investigations ongoing

The trial of Mannana Celinah Tsabana (39), who is facing a murder charge after Daveyton toddler Langelihle Mnguni was found dead in his home while in her care on October 18, will resume in court on February 5, 2020. The case is currently with the director of public prosecutions. Tsabana made her most recent appearance in court on December 10.
