Company donates to The Almond Tree
The NPO has a baby home in Delmas and a children’s village with an early childhood development (ECD) pre-school in Benoni.
Pan-African data network service provider Seacom handed over a cheque of R15 650 to the staff of The Almond Tree recently to further the work the NPO does for abandoned and abused babies and children.
What started as a temporary place of safety inside Charmaine and Kent McQueen’s home for vulnerable babies who have suffered from the adverse effects of HIV/AIDS, poverty and substance abuse, has grown into a child and youth care centre with trained caregivers, a house mother and management staff.

Dedicated to their mission of placing neglected children into a family environment of unconditional love, care and nurture, the passionate team at The Almond Tree equip children with essential moral values, life skills and a sense of belonging and purpose.
The organisation also provides employment and ECD and computer skills training to previously unemployed and unskilled women in the surrounding communities.
Aligning with Seacom’s core values, the telecommunications company believes in the work The Almond Tree does for its community and ran an internal drive to raise money for the NPO.
Chief commercial officer Steve Briggs said: “We are passionate about giving back to the community and supporting worthwhile projects, and feel The Almond Tree is a very deserving cause.
“It is our hope this contribution will uplift the babies’ caretakers and aid in the day-to-day functioning of the childcare centre in a significant way.”
