The EMPD has confirmed to the City Times that the poles that have recently been erected around the town will form part of a new security measure but that it is not an Ekurhuleni metro initiative.
EMPD media liaison officer Lerato Monyane stated the following:
“The poles in Benoni are the upgraded security cameras outside residential area that will be working optimally.
“The cameras will provide an additional security layer in your suburb in the fight against crime.”
Monyane added that the camera security upgrades are being driven by a private company and is not related to the municipality.
