“However, ultimately my passion for community work, especially involving children, is what motivated my decision to apply.

“My vision for child welfare is to develop the Colin House Child and Youth Care Centre into a children’s village where at-risk children can be placed in a safe and loving environment,” Carelse said.

She is also planning on expanding the vegetable garden by providing land to community members who wish to generate an income by growing produce and selling it on their premises.

The new board members who were recently appointed to support Carelse in her new post are Makhosazane Nkonyane (chairperson), Fannie Tshabalala (vice chairperson), Karen Abrams (treasurer), Margie Hillebrands (secretary), Gareth Mason (projects), Carol Foster (social media) and Mmapula Mohube.

Carelse is a Rynfield resident and has been married for 28 years.
