Two arrested following a house robbery in Mayfield

The station commander, Lt Col Wellington Mathiane, commended the members for a positive attitude in fighting crime.

Two men were arrested following a house robbery on February 17 at Mayfield Extension Six, in Putfontein around 3.30am.

Spokesperson Const Raider Ubisi said it is alleged that a couple was woken up by the sound of a window breaking in their house.

“Three entered into the room through the window, armed with knives. They then ordered the couple not to make any noise,” said Ubisi.

“The robbers covered the couple with a blanket and assaulted the husband with an iron bar.”

Ubisi said on the same day when the Ekurhuleni Trio Task Team went to the victims, the wife told them that she knew the whereabouts of the robbers.

“One of the men was apprehended on the street after the wife identified him and another man was arrested at his place of residence in the same area (Mayfield) around noon,” he said.

The robbers stole a laptop, two cellphones, and branded shoes and a purse with an undisclosed amount of cash.

A case of house robbery was opened at the Putfontein Police Station and the two men were detained.
