Actonville Training Centre receives donations

Healthy living was the order of the day at the Actonville Training Centre School for the Disabled.

Healthy living was the order of the day at the Actonville Training Centre School for the Disabled when the 200% Foundation donated eco-friendly menstrual cups that can be used for 10 years on Monday, March 2.

The cups were donated by Twin Peak Spur in Cape Town to the 200% Foundation. The foundation partnered with three other organisations for the programme, namely EMPD, Ekurhuleni Health Services and AfriForum Benoni branch, to give a talk on safety to the learners.

The foundation is a holistic transformation centre that promotes environmental wellness.

According to Manogari Moonsammy, the founder of the 200% Foundation, their target was underprivileged communities, where young girls skip school as they cannot afford sanitary pads.

“We also thought of informal settlements, where there is no refuse removal services from the council and sanitary pads start to smell, causing damage in the community,” said Moonsammy.

Advantages of the menstrual cup:

Biodegradable

Eco-friendly

SABS approved

12 hours drip free

10-year life cycle

Reusable and washable

Cost-effective

100% safe

“This menstrual cup is recyclable and will help young girls to save money from buying pads and tampons,” said Sister Virginia Williams from Ekurhuleni Health Services.

Williams emphasised good hygiene when using the cup, to prevent infections and germs.

Archie Mouyis from AfriForum issued safety tags that included emergency numbers for the learners to refer to if they feel unsafe.
