56-year-old Benoni High blazer still treasured

Cecile was born in Bethal in 194. She moved to Benoni when she was a baby and attended Benoni Junior School, Benoni West School and later Benoni High School.

Cecile Schlesinger decided to use her lockdown time wisely by spring cleaning her home and in the process found her Benoni High School colours blazer that she wore 56 years ago.

“When I came across my old blazer it brought back fond memories that I will treasure forever,” she said.

Cecile was born in Bethal in 194. She moved to Benoni when she was a baby and attended Benoni Junior School, Benoni West School and later Benoni High School.

She was elected to captain the netball team for Benoni High which was chosen to take part in the Eastern Transvaal schools tournament and it was here she and three team mates were awarded their netball colours.

“I have always been very sporty, so I participated in athletics and netball throughout my high school years,” Cecile said.

In 1965, she matriculated from Benoni High School and went on to qualify as a pharmacist and is working in a retail pharmacy.

She is married to Ian Schlesing and has three children and seven grandchildren.
