A family of three was tied up during a house robbery yesterday (August 28) in Sunny Road, Lakefield.
Benoni SAPS spokesperson Capt Nomsa Sekele said according to the husband they were sleeping when they heard people shouting ‘where is the light switch or we will shoot’ in their bedroom.
“When the 48-year-old husband responded and the light was switched on, they saw two men wearing balaclavas armed with firearms. This was around 3am,” said Sekele. “They then asked where the safe was and the wife said they didn’t have one.”
Sekele said the wife was then hit on the head with a firearm and the two robbers tied the husband, wife, and their daughter up with tape and cable ties.
“The husband was also slightly cut with a razor on his head and the robbers tore the daughter’s clothes,” she said.
The robbers gained entry into the house by breaking a wooden window frame.
They fled with an undisclosed amount of money and jewellery.
The wife was taken for a medical assessment at a local hospital.
A case of house robbery was opened at the Benoni Police Station.
