Local organisations Women on Fire together with the Meeka Foundation donated sanitary pads to Benoni and Johannesburg South schools recently.
The aim of the sanitary pads drive was to help keep girls in schools.
The Benoni schools that received pads were Benoni Primary and Pioneer Primary schools.
Sue Moodley, marketing manager for Women on Fire, said they chose such a drive to support young girls from historically disadvantaged communities where sanitary pads are deemed a luxury and not a necessity.
“As Women on Fire, we also aim to inspire, motivate and uplift women in all facets of life,” said Moodley.
The Meeka Foundation is a Benoni-based organisation that advocates for women’s rights and aims to shelter, educate, and empower women and children from abusive homes.
The Women on Fire is an organisation that supports women’s organisations nationally throughout the year.
