Eight arrested by EMPD officers

All suspects are expected to appear in Daveyton and Boksburg magistrate’s courts soon.

EMPD officers apprehended eight suspects in the Boksburg, Daveyton and Etwatwa areas.

“During the crime prevention operation in Daveyton and Etwatwa areas, at Mayibuye section and surroundings the EMPD Anti-drugs Squad nabbed seven suspects who are 21, 24, 25, 27 and 33 years of age,” said EMPD spokesperson Kobeli Mokheseng.

“One hundred and forty-seven knotted plastics of nyaope, 26 pieces of rock/cocaine valued at R10 450 and R230 cash were confiscated.

“The suspects, facing charges of possession and possible dealing in illicit substance, were taken to Daveyton and Etwatwa police stations.”

Mokheseng added that in the Boksburg area at Dunswart train station, the EMPD Anti-Cable Theft Unit officers on patrol arrested a 23-year-old man found using a hammer and chisel to damage the Prasa branded ceramic shield in order to gain access to the covered/protected copper.

“The suspect, facing charges of damage to property and possession of implements used for house break-in, was taken to the Boksburg Police Station,” Mokheseng explained.
