Metro officials screen residents in Etwatwa

As part of the ward-based intervention plan to reduce the spread of the coronavirus in the Ekurhuleni metro, about 7 294 people were screened for Covid-19 at Mandela Park, in Etwatwa, on October 12.

Themba Gadebe, spokesperson for the metro, said the team consisted of metro officials, Gauteng Department of Cooperate Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA), and The Aurum Institute.

“The team started the day at Mshayazafe sports ground and did a door-to-door interaction with the community on lockdown Level 1 regulations.

“They also promoted a healthy lifestyle to the community.”

By the end of the day, 35 people were swabbed for Covid-19 and about 70 people were screened for HIV/Aids, of which one of them was referred for further medical testing.

Ten were screened for tuberculosis while 48 were screened for blood pressure and blood glucose.

The team also distributed 1 300 health pamphlets.
