Tree pruning underway in Benoni

Residents are encouraged to report overgrown grass and low hanging tree branches to the metro either by contacting the cell centre on 086 054 3000, or via email at call.centre@ekurhuleni.gov.za or through the My CoE App.

The Ekurhuleni metro urges residents to be cautious while driving down Great North Road as the Department of Parks and Cemeteries have begun the process of pruning trees in Benoni recently.

Emmanuel Maphorogo, divisional head for parks and cemeteries, said the recent heavy rains resulted in unprecedented overgrown trees on pavements and residential areas.

The metro’s call centre has been inundated with calls from residents reporting overgrown grass and low hanging tree branches.

He said all hands were on deck to cut the grass and trim the trees.

“Residents and motorists should be cautious when driving on some of the metro’s main roads as our team may be on-site, barricading a portion of the road to allow for the safe cutting of trees,” said Maphorogo.

Maphorogo pleads with residents to refrain from cutting branches that are hanging onto public roads.

“Cutting down a tree if you are not well trained and in the absence of proper equipment can be dangerous to humans and property.”

Residents are encouraged to report overgrown grass and low hanging tree branches to the metro either by contacting the cell centre on 086 054 3000, or via email at call.centre@ekurhuleni.gov.za or through the My CoE App.
