The Benoni SPCA received R25 000 through the Quote and Win competition hosted by the insurance company dotsure.co.za.

The insurance company launched the dotsure.co.za Quote and Win competition in April, where entrants had to complete an obligation-free online quote to enter and have since donated R125 000 to local animal shelters, all of whom were nominated by the winners, who also took home R25 000.

Rajeshree Gounden who was the first winner for the year nominated the Benoni SPCA.

Chairperson of the organisation Diane Woolridge said that fund-raising had been very tough. It was non-existent during Covid-19, which has left their bank balance quite bleak.

“On behalf of the Benoni SPCA, the committee, the staff, and mainly the animals, I would like to thank Rajeshree from the bottom of my heart for thinking of us and making us her nominated charity.

“Our most special thanks go to dotsure.co.za for this amazing competition that proves their commitment to the welfare of animals.”

The Benoni SPCA has been planning to build a puppy nursery and has established a concrete base thus far, but the cost of the building has been proving to be very expensive.

“While we’ve been trying to put aside money to this end, we cannot seem to be able to catch up and get it underway.

“This R25 000 will ensure that we can start buying the bricks and cement needed to realise this vision,” she said.

Any members of the public who would like to assist the Benoni SPCA can become members by paying R150 per year; thereby, allowing them to vote at the annual AGM as well as receive special rates onboarding.

They can also assist by nominating the Benoni SPCA as a beneficiary on their MySchool cards or by sponsoring a kennel for R300 per month for an individual or R500 a month for a business.
