Police arrest 23 during crime prevention operation

The aim of the operation led by district commander Maj-Gen Anna Mateisi, in conjunction with other law enforcement agencies, was to create police visibility and curb crime in the area.

Twenty-three people were arrested during the Ekurhuleni North district police’s high density operation conducted in the Benoni area on May 8.

Police arrested one illegal immigrant, two for possession of drugs, four for dealing in dagga, five for drunk driving, eight for illegal gambling and two for contravening the Disaster Management Act and alcohol was confiscated.

Seven Gautrans traffic fines valued at R2 400 and 18 EMPD fines valued at R9 600 were issued and 201 vehicles searched.
