Successful career day for Girl Guides

The Girl Guides have programmes that remain relevant to the community for girls from the age of 4 and a half.

“If you wake up one morning and you do not like what you are doing – change.”

These were the words of Laura Beamish, a guest speaker at the Girl Guides South Africa career day on May 8.

The Girl Guides hosted a career day at their Gauteng East Regional headquarters at 65 van Rooyen Street, Rynfield, for members of their senior branch (Rangers) and their friends who are uncertain about their future career or what their chosen career entails.

“We have eight guest speakers who were previously members of the Girl Guides at some stage and we have young ladies from Boksburg, Bedfordview, Vosloorus and Benoni in attendance today,” said Girl Guides South Africa adult leader Elaine van Zyl.

The eight guest speakers shared their stories and career choices, which include fields of communications, law, nursing, environmental sciences, veterinary science, finance, graphic design, hospitality and flight attendant.

The Girl Guides have programmes that remain relevant to the community for girls from the age of 4 and a half.

One of the guest speakers, Ntando Dube, said the teens are still young and there is time to decide what they want to do in their professional lives.

Units are run in various locations within the region.
