Lakefield resident cleans up his neighbourhood
John welcomes extra hands who would also like to help keep Benoni beautiful.
While most residents are fed up with the filth around town, one resident last week said enough is enough and did something to clean up his neighbourhood.
John Law lives in Lakefield and was tired of looking at the sorry state of the grassed area on the corner of Atlas Road and Lakefield Avenue.
So he hired some helping hands and a lawnmower to clean the area up.

John even put two dustbins in the area, securing them to signage poles with chains, in the hope pedestrians and others will get the message and keep this entrance to the beautiful suburb of Lakefield free of litter.
The City Times had a walk-around with John on Friday morning and, sadly, there was already more litter-strewn in places, as John pointed out.
His two-day effort yielded well over 20 black bags full of rubbish from the immediate area.

“Benoni is really quite filthy at the moment,” he said. “I’m retired and I thought getting stuck in and doing something about the state of this patch of land was a good way to keep active and do something positive.
“I am a big fan of the Move One Million initiative and I think this is exactly what it is all about. If everyone did something small we could get a lot done to preserve our beautiful city.”
John plans to keep up the area litter free through regular maintenance and was already planning to clean up another site further along the road – the island at the right turn to the Benoni Lake Club.
“It won’t take me half an hour, and I’m happy to do it,” he said.
John welcomes more helping hands in his effort to keep the entrance to Lakefield spotless, or ideas of how to do more meaningful projects in Benoni.
