A brush with local artists: Meet Gilford

Benoni Art Route is open to anyone with a passion for drawing, painting and sculpture.

Alistair Gilford Leach is one of the artists who exhibit his work at the Benoni Art Route (BAR) every last Sunday of the month.

The 49-year-old is known for the beautiful Nguni cows he paints, but you’ll also see Koi fish landscapes, as well as abstracts done in acrylics and oils.

He paints under his middle name, Gilford, and has always shown to be creative when he started in his mother’s pottery studio as a child.

He only started painting professionally over the past eight years and loves creating things that come to life on the canvas.

The art route is held at the CR Swart Park, Rynfield, from 10:00 to 15:00.

Benoni Art Route is open to all individuals who have a passion for creativity in all drawing and painting disciplines, as well as, sculpture.

Upon joining BAR all members whose work has been approved, pay a membership fee towards the end of a year for the following year.

Anyone who wishes to participate in exhibitions after membership closed for a year may apply to exhibit their work monthly as a guest artist upon paying a monthly fee.

A selection committee will then judge the work for approval, following application for membership for the following full year.
